soft structure

Brooklyn-based Erin Considine's stunning work with metal & hand-dyed fiber combines such gorgeous textures & colors. Drawing inspiration from nature, her woven, plaited, knotted & twisted architectural designs are wearable pieces of art. Made with ethically sourced metal, cotton & silk, & dyed with natural materials like madder root, turmeric, logwood & onion skin, her pieces are as thoughtfully sourced as they are constructed.

recollected

I recently started assembling some collected bits & baubles in an old shadowbox my father made for me when I was but a wee lass. A tiny revolving personal museum of sorts.

What do you do with the many small objects that you amass throughout your life?

Thankfulness

Many thanks to The Sartorialist, who posted the photo of my Grandmother that appears on this blog banner, & to all of the people who commented. Cheers!

happy weekend

Getting out of town for a much-needed break, & to celebrate 12 years since I told my best friend "I do" (insert gratefulness here): indulgence in comfort foodlibationsart will ensue.
Allow yourself a little indulgence, as well!

rough & lustre

The white walls & floors, the tiles & the weathered front door, the beamed & swooping ceilings, the old & the new, the rough & the lustrous, the streamlined & the curvy, & the bursts of saturated colors: smitten.

this is beautiful

This past week has been filled with acute reminders of how fleeting the moments of our lives are, & how resilient memories can be. Photographer Taylor Jones created the tumblr Dear Photograph, which captures this impermanence in a most poignant way, by collecting photos people have submitted of their past in the present. Moving, to say the least.

hold on

I'm taking the week off to spend time with friends & family in the wake of a tragedy that has rocked our little tight-knit community, & yet another untimely death that has touched many. Peace & love to all.

happy weekend

Music out-of-doors, farmer's market, food with friends & home projects = perfect weekend. Hope yours is too.

full metal kimono

These stunning metal kimonos were made by a dear friend of mine, Polish artist, photographer & makeup artist Gabriela von Seltmann (née Maciejowska).

Gabi & her husband, Uwe von Seltmann, a writer & film maker, have embarked on a project that examines painful & hitherto unknown pieces of their families' pasts, when Uwe discovered that his Grandfather was an SS Officer in Kraków, & Gabi learned that her Grandfather had perished in Auschwitz.

They spoke at a recent TED conference about how they met & were subsequently inspired to take on this difficult & illuminating piece of work.
