the glowing word

Spanish art collective Luzinterruptus flooded Melbourne's Federation Square for the month of June with 10,000 glowing books that flowed into a street below. Literature versus Traffic, an installation for the city's Light in Winter festival, was created from books taken out of circulation by area public libraries & affixed with LED lights. Taking over a public square and a lane on a busy thoroughfare, the illuminated pages created a temporary reading library that invited people to stop & browse. Words as fuel & vehicles.

There's a distinct chill in the air, which makes me turn my eye toward cozy interiors. I have always been keen on exposed beams, & as of late raw wood paired with wintry whites has caught my fancy. Add simple, modern shapes & cool, serene colors occasionally punctuated with warm, vibrant pops, & I've found my dream interior winter wonderland: simple, sophisticated & inviting. On top of that, a pot of tea, knitting, an open fire & a single malt will do me just fine, thank you. Happy hibernating...

happy weekend

There's something about this photo of a friend & I at a house party/performance a couple of weeks back that I really love - captures an un-self-conscious moment in conversation so well.

Happy conversing & socializing - cheers!

the silence that fills

Happy Birthday to John Cage. We attended a performance that honored his rich legacy with a three hour program of his works, & I had the privilege of performing 4' 33".

33 musicians talk about how Cage influenced & inspired them:
John Cage, what does he communicate
