this is beautiful

Anthony Goicolea's photographs feel like film stills, beautiful images which inspire both curiosity & an underlying feeling of dread. Cinematic & dream-like, slightly surreal with unsettling juxtapositions, they are narratives for mysterious stories in what Goicolea describes as "barely inhabitable worlds."

tree line

Tree, Line by Zander Olsen is a photographic series of an installation which plays with the viewer's perception of space, depth & relationships between objects.

according to Olsen:
This is an ongoing series of constructed photographs rooted in the forest. These works, carried out in Surrey, Hampshire and Wales, involve site specific interventions in the landscape, ‘wrapping’ trees with white material to construct a visual relationship between tree, not-tree and the line of horizon according to the camera’s viewpoint.

happy weekend

What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.

rising up

Zadok Ben David's arresting installation, Blackfield, is comprised of thousands of black painted steel cutouts of botanical prints taken from old textbooks, embedded in sand; the other side of each delicate piece is painted in vivid colors, magically bringing the field to life as you walk its perimeter. Breathtaking.

Lately I've been putting together new jewelry pieces, playing around with shapes & textures; I'm finding reassembling old pieces & putting together bits collected over the years from many different origins especially satisfying.

New year, new pieces from well-loved sources rethought... a good directive for living, perhaps?

clean industry

I featured this atelier in an earlier post, having fallen in love with the bent-wire quote wending its way across the wall. The rest of this Parisian apartment is just as stunning... oh, all of my favorite elements are here: airy light, artwork, books, a beautiful & utilitarian kitchen, a mix of old & new, rough patinas paired with soft & shiny textures, industrial & curvaceous furnishings, functional yet comfortable spaces. The polished concrete floor & open wrought iron railings gives the feeling of a living space enfolding a once open courtyard. And that chandelier...

white blanket

Everything finally feels all right now... after a big snow dump in October, we've had no snowfall to speak of in Southern Vermont, until today. My walk home from town was so absolutely beautiful, I couldn't stop snapping pics. I've made myself a bowl of chocolat chaud & am about to go into the studio to begin etching some new designs, probably with a warm cat or two joining me on my lap. Cheers!
