the silence that fills

Happy Birthday to John Cage. We attended a performance that honored his rich legacy with a three hour program of his works, & I had the privilege of performing 4' 33".

33 musicians talk about how Cage influenced & inspired them:

aged to perfection

Of all the eras of fashion, the 1940s remains my favorite. The sophistication of the cuts & drapes, the masterful details, the feminine strength & overall glamour are timeless & flattering. And the bullet bras! All of these ensembles still look fresh to me, & I would gladly wear them today.

borrowing from the boys

The tailoring & fabric of classic menswear works so well for women, creating an undeniably sexy yet refined, classic look. Smart, strong & gorgeous.

suffrage

In light of the mid-term elections, we've come a long way since 1920, a shockingly recent date when women in the United States, after much protesting & strife, were finally given the right to vote. Poland, Russia, German Austria, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania & a host of other countries had already beat us to that distinction by a couple of years. We still have a long way to go as far as equal rights & basic care for our citizens & inhabitants is concerned. Hats off to all of the dedicated & outspoken people who are still fighting to keep hope & sanity alive! Use your voice & be sure to vote!

this is beautiful

These incredible photographs taken by Russian photographer Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii (1863-1944) between 1909-1912 feel both otherworldly & yet more immediate than their dates would suggest, owing to a brilliant technology involving a specialized camera that used red, green and blue filters to capture three black and white images in quick succession, then later recombined and projected the resulting detailed color images with filtered lanterns.

Thanks, John!
